Typical use Of Carbidopa :In Combination With Levodopa Used In The Management Of Parkinsons Disease. Levodopa Combination Is Also Used For The Treatment Of Restless Leg Syndrome.
Mechanism of action of Carbidopa :Carbidopa When Mixed With Levodopa, Carbidopa Inhibits The Peripheral Conversion Of Levodopa To Dopamine And The Decarboxylation Of Oxitriptan To Serotonin By Aromatic L-amino Acid Decarboxylase. This Results In Increased Amount Of Levodopa And Oxitriptan Available For Transport To The CNS. Carbidopa Also Inhibits The Metabolism Of Levodopa In The GI Tract, Thus, Increasing The Bioavailability Of Levodopa.
Drug Interaction of Carbidopa :Carbidopa Is Known To Interact With Other Drugs Like Spiramycin. Always Consult Your Physician For The Change Of Dose Regimen Or An Alternative Drug Of Choice That May Strictly Be Required.
Side effects of Carbidopa :Postural Hypotension, Psychiatric Disturbances, Fluctuating Disability, Dyskinesias, Nausea, Vomiting, Palpitation, GI Upset.

Mechanism of action of Levodopa :Striatal Dopaminergic Neurotransmission May Be Enhanced By Exogenous Supplementation Of Dopamine Through Administration Of Dopamine's Precursor, Levodopa. A Small Percentage Of Each Levodopa Dose Crosses The Blood-brain Barrier And Is Decarboxylated To Dopamine.
