Generic ( Insulin Isophane )

Typical use Of Insulin Isophane :Diabetes Mellitus.
Mechanism of action of Insulin Isophane :Insulin Isophane Binds To The Insulin Receptor (IR), A Heterotetrameric Protein Consisting Of Two Extracellular Alpha Units And Two Transmembrane Beta Units. The Binding Of Insulin To The Alpha Subunit Of IR Stimulates The Tyrosine Kinase Activity Intrinsic To The Beta Subunit Of The Receptor. The Bound Receptor Is Able To Autophosphorylate And Phosphorylate Numerous Intracellular Substrates Such As Insulin Receptor Substrates (IRS) Proteins, Cbl, APS, Shc And Gab 1. These Activated Proteins, In Turn, Lead To The Activation Of Downstream Signaling Molecules Including PI3 Kinase And Akt. Akt Regulates The Activity Of Glucose Transporter 4 (GLUT4) And Protein Kinase C (PKC) Which Play A Critical Role In Metabolism And Catabolism.
Drug Interaction of Insulin Isophane :Insulin Isophane Is Known To Interact With Other Drugs Like MAOIs, ACE Inhibitors, Salicylates, Alcohol, Anabolic Steroids And Non-selective β-blockers. Always Consult Your Physician For The Change Of Dose Regimen Or An Alternative Drug Of Choice That May Strictly Be Required.
Side effects of Insulin Isophane :Injection Site Reactions E.g. Swelling, Redness, Itch And Pain.

Generic ( Neutral Insulin )

Typical use Of Neutral Insulin : Diabetes Insipidus, Diabetes Mellitus
Mechanism of action of Neutral Insulin :Insulin Lowers Blood Glucose Levels. It Regulates Carbohydrate, Protein And Fat Metabolism By Inhibiting Hepatic Glucose Production And Lipolysis, And Enhancing Peripheral Glucose Disposal. The Various Insulin Formulations Are Classified According To Their Durations Of Action After SC Inj. They Are Divided Into Short-, Intermediate-, Or Long-acting Insulin. Soluble Insulin (also Known As 'neutral Insulin' Or 'regular Insulin') Is A Short-acting Preparation. To Extend The Duration Of Action Of Insulin, Preparations Are Formulated As Suspensions In 2 Methods. The 1st Method Involves Complexing Insulin With A Protein So That It Is Slowly Released, E.g. Protamine Zinc Insulin (contains An Excess Of Protamine) And Isophane Insulin (or NPH Insulin Which Contains Equal Amounts Of Protamine And Insulin).
Drug Interaction of Neutral Insulin :Possible Absence Of Hypoglycaemic Warning Symptoms With ?-blockers. Decreased Hypoglycaemic Effect With Corticosteroids, Danazol, Diazoxide, Diuretics, Glucagon, Isoniazid, Phenothiazine Derivatives, Somatropin.
Side effects of Neutral Insulin :Allergy, Hypokalemia, Hyperglycemia, Blurred Vision, Hypoglycemia.
